Tim Tucker is an Honorary Senior Lecturer within the Division. Tim is the CEO of the health Strategy consultancy, "Strategic Evaluation, Advisory and Development Consulting (Pty) Ltd. (SEAD)," a Black-empowered group based in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Tim's interest lies with management strategies to improve the quality, performance and alignment of health and biotechnology programs which serve the poorest of communities. Most of these are HIV and/or TB programs. Tim's group at SEAD has a significant interest in the interface between primary health clinics and the NHLS, using complex systems analysis modelling. SEAD has multimillion dollar support for programs from public sector and private sector funding bodies. These have resulted in strategic interventions for a multitude of governments, NGOs and companies.
Tim has taught at UCT in various courses. He developed and taught a UCT Honours module in Biotechnology and Product Development, and has taught repeatedly in the vaccinology course for the infectious diseases honours students. He also teaches in the Masters program within the Institute of Monitoring and Evaluation on upper campus.
Tim is the past head of the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative, and past deputy Chair of the African AIDS Vaccine Program. He has served on multiple editorial review boards, and has published 29 papers in international journals, including Science.
In his spare time, Tim is a bee keeper and a keen outdoors person, sweating the Argus Cycle Tour and hauling crayfish from the sea bed.
